General Electric College Bowl

The General Electric College Bowl, which aired on television from 1959-1970, was indeed the – Intercollegiate Battle of Brains. A simple question and answer show that pitted two, four-member teams against each other for bragging rights and handsome scholarship prizes in support of their team’s college. Every college or university across the nation tried to find a way to compete. And our college, Rockford College, fielded its own team in 1965.

RC went up against the, then reigning champs St. Peter’s College, NJ. Our four guests in this episode of the Rolling R, RC Team Captain and English major Bill Manson ’67, Sociology major Gordon Knight ’67, Zoology major Mike Oberdorfer ’66 and Psychology major Tom Gartland ’67. They were the four RC competitors in the November 14 “Battle in the Big Apple,” New York City.
